On Suse SLES 8, we found that a problem with "who": If a user logged on thru console and open several terminal sessions, both "w" and "who" list all session users, however, when we closed the terminals other than the logon window, who still lists the entries, but "w" delisted them, which is right. I found that utmp can detect if the terminal is closed or not either.
