Hello,
I understand that multi-volume and compression are incompatible and I
agree with this but would like to suggest a modification that could
allows it somehow and could improve general tar program:
make a new option (improving GNU tar format) that compress files INSIDE
the archive. The option applies only at archive creation.
Possible issues:
- combination with --sparse
- when the compressed version is bigger...
