Thank you for your reply.

I checked for that.  The max file size for NTFS is in the terabyte
range.  It looks like there is no tar limits, so I will try to find a
ftp forum to see if there is a limit there.

Probably 2G is the maximum file size the file system on the remote
mashine can accomodate.
