I'm seeing a weird error from tar when I try to do an L1 incremental backup with AMANDA 2.51p2-20070202 and GNU tar 1.16 FreeBSD ports patchlevel 2.
This is the output recorded in AMANDA's log: ? gtar: memory exhausted ? gtar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now sendbackup: error [dump (6349) /usr/local/bin/gtar returned 2] The machine is running FreeBSD 6.2 on a dual Core Duo Xeon machine with 3GB of RAM and 8GB of swap. The disk being backed up is on an NFS share served by a NetApp filer and has about 130GiB of data on it, most of it in the form of Maildir-format e-mails. AFAICT, tar and AMANDA pull the files from this share, create files segmented to 1GB each on the holding drive, and then puts them onto tape. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks! -- Mark Hennessy
