I am not sure about the problems you have... I have so far never been able to use GNU tar correclty for incremental restores with the test cases I did set up for testing incrementals with star. GNU tar did always faile with some kind of renamed directories. Please note that the archive format used by GNU tar for incrementals is not very sparse, it will always archive a complete subdir tree if a directory has been renamed. If you are interested in a mature inremental backup sulution you may try a recent version of star ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/cdrecord/alpha/ Jörg -- EMail:[EMAIL PROTECTED] (home) Jörg Schilling D-13353 Berlin [EMAIL PROTECTED] (uni) [EMAIL PROTECTED] (work) Blog: http://schily.blogspot.com/ URL: http://cdrecord.berlios.de/old/private/ ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/schily
