I'll preface this with a "I agree, this is a silly bug". With tar
version 1.15.1, we noticed that having multiple groups ("cvs", id's
268,1021), verify would fail. example:
/export/cvs/MainFoodChain/2.6/app/include/app/lwappinit.h,v: Gid differs
The main reason this was setup this way was purely historical ('its
someone else's fault'), I didn't go through the entire system changing
ownership of each file since it would cause every file to get backed up
again. If the GID is being stored, would it not be a simple "double
check" by looking up the GID first, and then verify the group name
associated with that GID? I guess this is more for "completeness" than
"hey idiot, just change the group name, etc"
