I think that an additional option, similar to
gcc's -W, would be in place.  For example, `tar --warning=record' would
enable emitting the record size warning.

Yuck.

GNU tar already has way too many command line options.

If people are going to have to change scripts to
avoid these warnings, they may as well do it in
a more robust way that won't break with other
tar implementations.  "-B -b 1" is far more
portable.
