This is mailing list of upstream of GNU tar - RH/Centos rpm package is based on tarballs released by upstream. xattrs/acl/selinux support is added by Red Hat specific patch, it was proposed to upstream in its beginning (http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-tar/2006-08/msg00004.html) , there are few blockers for upstream consideration/acceptance, one is absence of test suite for it (we know about it and it's in todo list), other objections were addressed (better autoconf checks, documentation, obsolete patch base ...). Once it will be ready for upstream consideration in our opinion, we'll propose it again, based on latest git. Main differences in tar distributed by Red Hat are: - SELinux/acl/xattr support - different defaults for wildcards Other changes are just cosmetic. Greetings, Ondřej Vašík
