If you examine the exit code, you can distinguish this and other
relatively harmless errors from other, more significant errors.  See
  http://www.gnu.org/software/tar/manual/tar.html#SEC33

Amanda uses this to mark "file changed as we read it" as a STRANGE,
but not FAILED, backup.
