The following belongs to "info" (GNU texinfo) 4.0 from texinfo-4.0 release,
installed under Solaris 2.6 on a Sun Ultra-5. info-stnd.info has been appended
to an older "dir" (residing in gnu/info) using the new install-info. A separate
pre-installed "dir" (in subdir xemacs) came along with the xemacs distribution.
The pathes to both dir's are put in INFOPATH.
"(info-stnd)Invoking Info" allows to run "info MENU-ITEM" _without_ the -f
option. In general, this works as expected.
However, if MENU-ITEM contains at least one hyphen (eg info-stnd or, as from
xemacs, new-user-guide or vhdl-mode), the -f option _must_ be given. Otherwise
"info" outputs:
File: *manpages*, Node: MENU-ITEM, Up: (dir)
No manual entry for MENU-ITEM
Info: (*manpages*)MENU-ITEM, 3 lines --All--- ...
