There is a problem with characters such as &, % etc.: they are not
accepted as are by TeX, but the \ is not stripped by makeinfo:
/tmp % cat foo.texi nostromo 17:33
\input texinfo
@setfilename foo
@node Top
@top Top
@math{\&} and @math{\%}.
@math{&} and @math{%}.
@bye
/tmp % makeinfo foo.texi --no-header nostromo 17:33

\& and \%.
& and %.
/tmp % texi2dvi -I ~/src/texinfo/doc foo.texi nostromo 17:35

/home/lrde/prof/akim/bin/texi2dvi: tex exited with bad status, quitting.
/home/lrde/prof/akim/bin/texi2dvi: see foo.log for errors.
This is CVS makeinfo. I don't desperately need this, but at least
makeinfo could complain (?).
