There are sophisticated solutions for LaTeX to break long URLs
automatically at proper places like `/'. Is such a thing available
for texinfo also?
Not yet. I've wanted to incorporate something like url.sty for years
now, but have never had the time.
A sufficient solution would be a command similar to
`""' from german.sty to insert a zero-width break point.
