Those platform will probably not have users have white spaces in
the directory names.
Actually, the only significant platform that does not support symlinks
these days is Windows. And Windows is also a very likely place where
users will use whitespace in names.
However, I had the impression the patch would not cause non-symlink
platforms to always fail now, so they'd be no worse off than before.
Was that wrong? If so, the symlink stuff should probably be made
conditional to when the name actually includes whitespace.
