I wonder about defining a special variable name, say
texiimageoutputprefix. So a source doc could have something like

@set texiimageoutputprefix ../images/
@endif html
@ifinfo
@set texiimageoutputprefix gnutls-images/
@end ifinfo
The processors would just prepend @value{texiimageoutputprefix} in the
href's (html) or [image ...] (info).
Nothing seems very appealing.
