Thanks for the report. I think I've fixed this in another way.
Oops! Sorry for the duplicate report - I did search for this error in
Google (with no results - probably beacuse at the time I had not yet
pinpointed it and the keywords I used were not very exact) but it did not
occur to me to search the bug-texinfo archives until seconds after I'd
actually sent the mail...
Can you try the texi2dvi that's currently in Texinfo CVS, please?

I patched my texi2dvi with the related lines and it seems to work, at
least as far as `make dvi' in gcc-4.2.1 is concerned. Thanks!
