I guess this can be done using mb* modules from gnulib.
Yeah, that's my guess too. It's figuring out where all the assumptions
are that's the trouble.

I also have a 'backlog' of other texinfo-related things
I'm not sure the above is the top priority, depending on what else you
have going, since I think we can work around it so that at least things
are no worse broken than they ever were.
I want to make another release just fixing the other reported bugs and
incorporating Stephane's patches in the relatively near future.
