An alternative might be to bind "{" and "}" to
search-previous and search-next.
I don't mind that on the basis of the keys, but I question whether these
functions really need such bindings. It seems to me the natural way to
"search again" (forward) is to hit s RET. That's what I've always done
myself -- I never even knew search-previous/next existed.
As for search-backward, we've already discussed the general weirdnesses
of going backwards.
I could then propose to turn them all around:

Almost. You removed the wrong "and select the node" string. The
Oops, right.
command. Then this part of the help text would look like:
Ok.
See if it passes muster now, please ...
