It is done in the lilypond manual. 

Gadzooks.  Why on the earth do they do that?  Oh well.

    I think that it would be better not to do that, to keep the language
    unambiguous as possible.

Seems to me the language ambiguity is what we have now -- for sure TeX
ignores any number of spaces after control sequences outside
@example-like environments.

But since we've always had this inconsistency, like I said, basically
any behavior is fine as far as I'm concerned.
