No, I do not want to change it. The trailing whitespace is actually
useful for me. I've already explained at length to Jim and don't want
to reiterate the whole thing.

Well, that is simply a mistake.
I've wasted so much time over this trivial issue that is now being
propagated into every corner of GNU. Far, far, more than was ever
caused by having the trailing whitespace in the first place for the last
20+ years.
Sorry, but this is extremely frustrating to me.
