I've added an extra message in a recent commit. I don't think it's worth mentioning in the documentation how it works. -jobname would be possible but I don't want to mess with this any more than I need to. I don't find texi2dvi a particular easy program to work on (I'm probably partially to blame here) and I don't want to risk breaking some rare use case.
