Looks fixed. This is what I get with wget 1.13.4:
Connecting to 127.0.0.1:54783... connected.
HTTP request sent, awaiting response... -1
2012-01-29 15:22:58 ERROR -1: Malformed status line.
Retrying.

(and the reconnect fails because the perl script finished)
