And I can assure you that it works again, I was also one of the
people who were using it and missed it when it disappeared ( I use
--with-ssl=openssl --with-libssl-prefix=/usr/local now ).
Another thought:
Perhaps you just missed the --with-ssl=openssl bit? That became
necessary for using openssl when wget switched to using gnutls as
default SSL library.
