so, to summarize, wget doesn't have an internal algorithm for ripping the  
video source of a youtube video by itself.

Can you specify in more detail what is the package you're meaning to?

"apt-cache search youtube" on my debian jessie/sid system gives a long
list of packages that help to do this.  I use clive personally, but i'm
sure there are other good options as well.
