Follow-up Comment #1, bug #46611 (project wget):
I could not reproduce the first example (...exe.html).
Are you sure you did not use -E / --adjust-extension ?
If I use that, the output looks like in your first example, else like in your
second.
Please add -d to the wget options and send us that output for the first
example.
