I think you can pipe your UTF16 files through iconv to transform them to UTF8. See https://www.gnu.org/software/libiconv/. libiconv comes with the command line utility iconv to do it. Also see https://www.gnu.org/savannah-checkouts/gnu/libiconv/documentation/libiconv-1.15/iconv.1.html. Jeff
