May I respectfully request that git tags be annotated? This has the benefit
of tags showing up nicely in gitk and friends (v4.4.1.alpha* don't while
v4.4.0.alpha*/beta* do), and would also ease the life a bit at least for me
(our git-based build system requires annotated tags, don't remember the exact
reason but it was reasonable).
e.g.,
git tag -am v4.4.1 v4.4.1
