DFU actually does this sort of erasing. There was a bug that caused
some space not to be erased, but this was fixed a couple of weeks ago.

If you're experiencing this sort of problems with a recent u-boot build,
please describe in more detail what's happening.

Here is the system config:

GTA01b4
uBoot as shipped - 1.2.0-moko9_r8_.... May 19 2007)
dfu-util compiled from sources from
http://svn.openmoko.org/trunk/src/host/dfu-util/ on Aug 02
2007 (appears to be revision 2601)
Result: flashing a different rootfs gives strange GUI effects (i.e. no icons
displayed, fonts missing etc.)

This pages documents that others also had to manually erase NAND last week:

http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Phase_1_Software_Testing "As this image is
relatively small, make sure
you do a nand erase before flashing."

Do you have somekind of parallel build enabled? Like:

PARALLEL_MAKE = "-j 4"
BB_NUMBER_THREADS = "4"

Your log indicates at least -j 4 for make.

I find it sometimes launches Dialer, which I presume is because a click event is
somehow received on the "Missed Calls" item of Today.

Yes, I am using those settings to take advantage of my dual core. Could that be
the source of the problem? A dependency not being finished in the correct order
due to having 4 build threads?

As a side note I am running Fedora Core 6, which shouldn't be the problem since
I have successfully built om2007 and om2007.2 a few times without a hitch.

Let me know if any other info could help determine the solution.

This bug occurs on all versions of 2007.2 that I have tried, including the
latest kernel rootfs pair (uImage-2.6.21.5-r3-fic-gta01
OpenMoko-openmoko-devel-image-glibc-P1-August-Snapshot-20070819-fic-gta01).
Flashing works great, the kernel boots, and gets to the point where it switches
to a progress bar. The progress bar moves until it is 1-2 pixels short of
completion. There it stops. It does not progress, even if left there for 10s
of minutes. It does not matter whether USB is plugged in, there is a sd card
present, or there is a sim card present. The power button is unresponsive, even
if held for several minutes. The only way to shut down the neo is to remove the
battery.

In the "Tasks Page": when the user clicks in Close or "Close All" buttons and
there is no app to close, appears the "Are you sure..." dialog. Would be nice if
the user cant click to this buttons in this case.

I'm not sure if this bug belongs to this component or to the
openmoko-taskmanager, or openmoko-task...
