------- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2007-12-19 16:54 -------
Hello,

So, I could reproduce the artifact when rotating the LCD to 90 or 270 degres.

In console mode, what happens is that screen becomes blurry, flickers a lot, and
the glyphs in the console can't be read because they are really small and don't
looks more like chunks of lines rather than glyphs.

This is what happens with a pixel clock timing (as returned by fbset) of 50 000
pico second per pixel. This more or less equals to 65Hz of frame rate for a
screen resolution of 640x480 pixels.

Using fbset -pixclock 100 000 to lower the pixel clock rate (setting it to 100
000 pico seconds per pixel which equals to around 33Hz), I was still seeing the
artifacts.

I have made the test using olv's framebuffer driver patch that is at
http://people.openmoko.org/olv/tmp/smedia-fbset-support-12-05.patch. I added
that patch to the linux-openmoko_2.6.22.5.bb file from monotone.openmoko.org,
branch org.openembedded.dev.

I don't think this is a good idea, as they'll be no visual indication that a
surface can scroll if you hide the indicators when not scrolling. Is there a
use-case for this mode?

Also, this patch just stops drawing indicators and leaves a blank space where
they would otherwise be, unless I'm misreading it? Is that intended?

Adding scroll-wheel support as a global key shortcut will require adding a
callback to the containing window, but I'd like to add scroll-wheel support at
the widget level anyway, as it'd help this and make it a bit more usable on the
desktop.

You have one or more bugs assigned to you in the Bugzilla
bugsystem (http://bugzilla.openmoko.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla/) that require
attention.

All of these bugs are in the NEW state, and have not been touched
in 7 days or more. You need to take a look at them, and
decide on an initial action.

Generally, this means one of three things:

(1) You decide this bug is really quick to deal with (like, it's INVALID),
and so you get rid of it immediately.
(2) You decide the bug doesn't belong to you, and you reassign it to someone
else. (Hint: if you don't know who to reassign it to, make sure that
the Component field seems reasonable, and then use the "Reassign bug to
    owner of selected component" option.)
(3) You decide the bug belongs to you, but you can't solve it this moment.
Just use the "Accept bug" command.

To get a list of all NEW bugs, you can use this URL (bookmark it if you like!):

http://bugzilla.openmoko.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla/buglist.cgi?bug_status=NEW&[EMAIL
PROTECTED]

Or, you can use the general query page, at
http://bugzilla.openmoko.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla/query.cgi.

Appended below are the individual URLs to get to all of your NEW bugs that
haven't been touched for a week or more.

You will get this message once a day until you've dealt with these bugs!

artifacts

The image shows the artifacts. Please ignore the right half of the image. It
is due to wrong pitch.

In the left half, the top 5 lines are clear and readable (blame the camera if
you don't think so :-). But after them, the the lines are blurry and
unreadable. There are also lots of white points flashing.

A closer inspection shows that each pixel on the screen is, except where it
should be, flashing at ~100 pixels below. This is why the top ~100 pixels are
clear, and blurry below the region.

I did the same test on linux-openmoko_2.6.22.5.bb + fbset support patch. The
artifacts disappear after:

$ fbset.real -pixclock 100000

fb.modes

The fb.modes used to switch between VGA/QVGA.

Since the LCM need to be programmed to VGA/QVGA, I write a script to do the
work:

http://people.openmoko.org/olv/tmp/vgaqvga

With them in the right places,

$./vgaqvga qvga # switch to qvga
$./vgaqvga vga # switch to vga

Rotations work fine on VGA or QVGA mode.

Summary: u-boot menu text is not displayed correctly (GTA01Bv4)
           Product: OpenMoko
           Version: current svn head
          Platform: Neo1973
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: u-boot
        AssignedTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
        ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
                CC: [email protected]

On recent u-boots built from the "openmoko_svn.bb" recipe, the text in the
u-boot menu is not displayed properly and is almost unreadable. Please see the
attached screen capture. The menu itself works OK, and there are no problems
with the boot messages from the Linux kernel or with the OpenMoko GUI (so it's
not a physical problem with my screen).

The screen capture was taken with a slightly older build of the program, but I
have confirmed it on a fresh build of
u-boot-gta01bv4-1.3.1+git20071220+svnr3692-r1.bin . My only modifications from
the standard recipe are a patch for #799 (SD-booting) and a fix for the
"localversion" string, and I can't see any way that either of these could cause
a video/font problem.
