I think I have finally discovered the cause of this problem. When
pk-backend-opkg searches the package list, it uses the hash table created when
the backend was initialised. However, because of the bad ipkg api, when
opkg_packages_install() is called, a new hash table is created and modified to
reflect the current status. Therefore the hash table owned by pk-backend-opkg
becomes out of sync with the current status.

Well, I ended up reflashing to fresh kernel/rootfs images that used 2.6.24, and
a subsequent kernel upgrade (to 2.6.24+svnr4194-r4165-r4) performed as expected.

I hadn't reflashed in a couple of months before that, so it's possible that this
bug resulted from either

   * some problem going from 2.6.22.5 to 2.6.24; or

   * cruft that had built up on my machine in the intervening time and over the
course of many ipkg upgrades

I don't really know enough about this to mark it as FIXED at this point, so I'll
leave it to those who know better . . .

Installing and reinstalling the Windows driver doesn't help -- trust me, I have
been down that road *many* times before. I think it's broken.

And it's still broken as of kernel 2.6.24+svnr4194-r4165-r4.

To be more specific, the upgrade

FROM

  2.6.24+svnr4154-r4165-r3

TO

  2.6.24+svnr4194-r4165-r4

is the one that appears to have worked correctly.

Summary: cannot boot: svnr 4230, 4248
           Product: OpenMoko
           Version: current svn head
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: NEW
          Severity: blocker
          Priority: P1
         Component: u-boot
        AssignedTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
        ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
                CC: [email protected]

svnr4230 will immediately shutdown after splash screen if usb cable were not
inserted. svnr4248 makes it even worse because it will hang right after
splash. rollback to svnr4189 with debug board and it will shutdown immediately
after splash with or without usb cable. these 3 versions all use git upstream
b29661fc1151077776454288051bc9a488351ce8.

rollback to svnr 4138 with git upstream
10bbb38a402a2faf18858c451bcdc63d45888e6e, it boots alright.

[This e-mail has been automatically generated.]

You have one or more bugs assigned to you in the Bugzilla
bugsystem (http://bugzilla.openmoko.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla/) that require
attention.

All of these bugs are in the NEW state, and have not been touched
in 7 days or more. You need to take a look at them, and
decide on an initial action.

Generally, this means one of three things:

(1) You decide this bug is really quick to deal with (like, it's INVALID),
and so you get rid of it immediately.
(2) You decide the bug doesn't belong to you, and you reassign it to someone
else. (Hint: if you don't know who to reassign it to, make sure that
the Component field seems reasonable, and then use the "Reassign bug to
    owner of selected component" option.)
(3) You decide the bug belongs to you, but you can't solve it this moment.
Just use the "Accept bug" command.

To get a list of all NEW bugs, you can use this URL (bookmark it if you like!):

http://bugzilla.openmoko.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla/buglist.cgi?bug_status=NEW&[EMAIL
PROTECTED]

Or, you can use the general query page, at
http://bugzilla.openmoko.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla/query.cgi.

Appended below are the individual URLs to get to all of your NEW bugs that
haven't been touched for a week or more.

You will get this message once a day until you've dealt with these bugs!

I can reproduce this reliably on my neo:

1. make a call
2. press power key to close the talking window

The next time you make a phone call, the talking window will not show up.

show and hide

This simple test creates a window and shows/hides the window repeatedly.
Things work as expected until the power key is clicked while the window is
shown. The window never shows up again.

This is quite like what we are experiencing with the talking window and it only
happens on NEO (not on my laptop which runs metacity). Could it be a window
manager bug?

Deiconify after gtk_window_present. This seems to solve the issue, for unknown
reason.
