    It kinda brings to mind the concept of 'external memories' in
    the 'Ghost in the Shell' Japanese Anime genre.  

    How do you store data on physical devices which are outside of your
    direct control?  That is, storage out on the internet which you buy,
    borrow, or steal?  Clearly the only way is through Redundancy and
    Encryption.
