After updating to the lastest dports packages, this problem no longer manifests on any of my test machines. Therefore it appears to be resolved. This has been observed on multiple systems with both Radeon 4xxx graphics cards and Intel integrated graphics. Furthermore the systems had relatively recent full buildworld buildkernels, and dports was built against the up-to-date systems.
