Apache 2.0.45 with mod_ssl hangs on startup

Summary: Apache 2.0.45 with mod_ssl hangs on startup
           Product: Apache httpd-2.0
           Version: 2.0.45
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: NEW
          Severity: Major
          Priority: Other
         Component: mod_ssl
        AssignedTo: [email protected]
        ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I have tested this on several servers.

I am running 2.0.45 with mod_ssl (source compile) on RedHat Linux 7.3 and
RedHat Enterprise Linux WS 2.1. In both cases, the startup script
calls "apachectl startssl".

The problem is that when httpd tries to start, I am not prompted for the PEM
Passphrase at the console as with Apache 1.3. This effectively brings the
processing of the /etc/rc3.d/ scripts to a halt, and it never fully loads. I
end up having to SSH into the server and kill the startup process, then run
the startup script from the command line.

We really need the functionality of entering the passphrase upon startup at
the console window.

I already posted this issue to the lists and all I got was a response similar
to the below google groups thread - just disable the password on the private
key. How terribly secure!

Thanks for any assistance or guidance you can provide on this bug.
