Unable to use shares as DocumentRoot/VirtualDocumentRoot

If you map a share to a drive letter so that it looks like a normal windows 
drive ( eg k:\webroot\) and use this as the DocumentRoot then you get the same 
error message that the DocumentRoot is not a directory. It doesn't matter if 
you are pointing the DocumentRoot at the root of this drive or a subdirectory; 
Apache does not recognise the directories on a mapped drive as being 
directories.
