Single process server leaves PID file when interrupted

Summary: Single process server leaves PID file when interrupted
           Product: Apache httpd-2.0
           Version: 2.0.47
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: Windows XP
            Status: NEW
          Severity: Normal
          Priority: Other
         Component: Core
        AssignedTo: [email protected]
        ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
                CC: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

If I run Apache2 from the command-line in single-process mode (i.e. with the -X
command-line argument) then the PID file (logs/httpd.pid by default) is left
behind when I hit Control+C to interrupt the process.

(The PID file is correctly removed when running without the -X argument.)

This has caused problems in the mod_perl "SMOKE" testing software (which runs
Apache2 with the -X argument on Win32) if the user hits Control+C during a
SMOKE.
The is a thread here:
http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=apache-modperl-dev&m=106664438018826&w=2 which
discusses this briefly. We have a workaround to it (- just cleanup the PID file
ourselves), but I think Apache2 should really do the cleanup itself.
