I've dont that, removed the config.cache but the error keeps arising... maybe I 
should remove all the config caches? Maybe that would do the trick. It seems 
the configure script is just a little 'too' picky... if it could be toned down 
a bit to accept 'white spaces', maybe it would compile just fine.

Now keep in mind, this ONLY happens while trying to create a rpm via 
rpmbuild... Everything runs like a charm when compiling directly from source.

I was wondering, can u creat a rpm from apache source? Try running the 
following and see what u get:

%rpmbuild -bb httpd.spec
