A workaround I found is to force static libgcc linkage in gcc configuration
(specs file). This can be done by
applying the following patch to gcc 4.0.2 specs file:

60c65
< %{static|static-libgcc:-lgcc
-lgcc_eh}%{!static:%{!static-libgcc:%{!shared:%{!shared-libgcc:-lgcc -lgcc_eh}%
{shared-libgcc:-lgcc_s -lgcc}}%{shared:-lgcc_s}}}
---
> %{static|static-libgcc:-lgcc
> -lgcc_eh}%{!static:%{!static-libgcc:%{!shared:%{!shared-libgcc:-lgcc
> -lgcc_eh}%
{shared-libgcc:-lgcc -lgcc_eh}}%{shared:-lgcc -lgcc_eh}}}
