But looking up at comment #40, it was the proxy, so patching mod_cgi has no effect on you. I've just looked at mod_proxy in 2.0, and there is indeed the same bug there yet again (though it's deeper - in the mod_proxy_http provider). It's also rather more complex, but always (AFAICT) comes from ap_proxy_http_request, which in fact returns apr_status_t values.
