You ask why new conflicts are problems but not existing ones.

The other conflicts are problems too. But when you have a conflict you need to
make a decision about which type wins. Absent a very compelling argument
otherwise, it is clear that an existing type/language should win out over a new
one to prevent breaking sites that rely on the existing extension.

A very compelling argument would be, for example, concrete evidence showing that
.es is very-widely used for your type and almost never used for the language.
