Sorry I should have reinforced the problem more precisely - this is what is
being written to /var/log/apache2/error_log when I run /etc/init.d/apache2
reload:

[Fri Jun 17 04:59:23 2011] [notice] Graceful restart requested, doing restart
[Fri Jun 17 04:59:23 2011] [error] (9)Bad file descriptor: apr_socket_accept:

[Fri Jun 17 04:59:25 2011] [notice] Apache/2.2.17 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.17
OpenSSL/1.0.0d configured -- resuming normal operations
[Fri Jun 17 05:01:20 2011] [notice] Graceful restart requested, doing restart

The error does not appear when I do a full Apache restart. I believe the error
began as soon as I started using the MPM.
