1. We got our version from the apt repository with a PPA to get version 2.4.*

I think this is a separate issue that was found then, since we aren't replacing
any files as explained in the previous message.

I have no idea what that means. At lunch i'll setup a new VM to test the patch,
if you can guide how to modify the files. Is it simply checkout the full
source, git apply that patch, and _then_ compile / make?
