This appears to have been fixed with the following commit, but does not appear to have made it into a release yet. For those using ondrej's apache2 PPA, the patch was backported on October 6 into 2.4.23-5.0 I won't mark this RESOLVED as I am not sure if that is supposed to be done before a release is made / the general way that works here.
