System : OpenBSD 4.8
Details : OpenBSD 4.8-stable (GENERIC) #1: Mon Feb 14 17:25:13 EST
2011
[email protected]:/usr/src/sys/arch/i386/compile/GENERIC
Architecture: OpenBSD.i386
Machine : i386
>Description:
/usr/bin/gzip `cat /tmp/file.list` gives the error
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
gdb says the problem is in the command-line argument parsing.
Core file is at http://www.astro.indiana.edu/~jthorn/spool/gzip.core
The problem definitely does NOT depend on the actual files which
gzip would gzip if it were working correctly: I originally found
it when trying to gzip files in a large tree, but it's reproducible
in an empty directory, i.e., gzip core-dumps BEFORE trying to read
any of the files named on the command line.
>How-To-Repeat:
wget http://www.astro.indiana.edu/~jthorn/spool/gzip-bug-file-list
mv gzip-bug-file-list /tmp
cd to an empty directory
gzip `cat /tmp/gzip-bug-file-list`
