The man pages are lagging slightly (not by much) - the RAID4/5 status is
however accurate.

No, it is not. The current status of RAID4/5 is documented in the above
mentioned thread - in short there are several mechanisms that are not yet
implemented. If you want to use softraid(4) in production you will want to
use RAID 1. Otherwise I'd recommend a hardware RAID5 controller.
