On a whim I tried to reproduce this with my apple hardware. Sorry, but I don’t have a Macbook Air. I used the OpenBSD 5.5-release CD on a few systems: On a MacbookPro11,3 I was able to boot from OpenBSD amd64 CD into the (I)nstall (U)pgrade (A)utoupgrade prompt. After 30 minutes the screen never went blank. Yet once this prompt was displayed, I was no longer able to interact with the machine from keyboard (whether builtin or USB). The cursor was blinking, so if it was a lockup, it wasn’t a complete lockup. On a Macmini5,1 I was never able to get any screen output. In essence, the screen went blank from the moment it booted from the CD. Not even the bootloader prompt was displayed. However, the computer monitor registered that it was connected to a powered-on machine. (i.e. the led on the front of the monitor was green, not the “sleep mode yellow"), but only a blank screen was visible at all times. On a Macmini1,1 I was able to boot from the i386 install cd and install OpenBSD and all is well. Screen does not go blank before, during, or after install. Sorry my results weren’t more helpful, - Eric
