Could you send the output of "mixerctl -v" with and without your patch applied? As we're at it, could you build your kernels with AZALIA_DEBUG option and show the dmesg output in both cases? You have probably multiple microphones (try "mixerctl | grep mic" to guess their number), could you try to change sndiod_flags in /etc/rc.conf.local to use all microphones and see if this fixes recording? ex. if you have 2 microphones, set: sndiod_flags=-C0:3 3 microphones: sndiod_flags=-C0:5 4 microphones: sndiod_flags=-C0:7 etc... thank you
