Removing dhclient from my setup indeed fixes the issue and I'm seeing replies.
Your explanation helped me thinking up a workaround that enables me keeping my
configuration and fixing the issue:

dhcrelay -i vr0 10.0.0.1    #10.0.0.1 is the only server in my network.

The above seems to work. I'm not sure if there is a downside to this
workaround. Guess I will find out...
