Thanks for the hint, that helped somewhat.

I moved the webcam to the other port on my Sony laptop (the original
port was behind xHCI, the other one is behind EHCI). Now, I no longer
get an ioctl(8) error. However, the webcam still doesn't work:

[weerd@drop] $ fswebcam -d /dev/video1 c170.jpg
--- Opening /dev/video1...
Trying source module v4l2...
/dev/video1 opened.
No input was specified, using the first.
Adjusting resolution from 384x288 to 432x240.
--- Capturing frame...
GD Error: gd-jpeg: JPEG library reports unrecoverable error: Not a JPEG file:
starts with 0x28 0x85Capture
d frame in 0.00 seconds.
--- Processing captured image...
Writing JPEG image to 'c170.jpg'.

The resulting JPEG just shows a black picture (with the fswebcam date
banner at the bottom).

video(1) doesn't complain, but doesn't show anything either. However,
it doesn't work for the built-in webcam anymore either. It doesn't
even open a window. I'll try to figure out what's up there later
today.

Thanks again!

Paul
