For the archives, the fix is to go into the BIOS under "Advanced" and "Option ROM Launch Policy." Set "Configure Option ROM Launch Policy" from "All Legacy" to "All UEFI" and now efifb(4) works fine at 1920x1080. I suspect the system was set to "All Legacy" instead of "All UEFI" because I ordered it with FreeDOS rather than Windows. Bryan
