MBR in my case.

Thank you, Janne.   "boot hd0a:/bsd" worked with cd63.iso.  The issue
is increasing pointing in the direction of the bootloader.  cd63.iso
uses CDBOOT 3.29 instead of BOOT 3.34 that is included in the recent
snapshots.
