You can connect either with "ipmitool -I lanplus -H $hostname -U ADMIN -P ADMIN sol activate", or ssh'ing to the BMC and "cd system1/sol1" and "start", or there's an ipmi flavour of conserver that can connect directly to ipmi sol.
